We are asking for your cooperation in a research project on
pedagogical methods in teaching introductory programming. We have
developed a concept called "roles of variables" that formalizes
intuitive concepts that you may have used in teaching novices. This
concept has been successfully applied in procedural programming and
now we are transferring it to object-oriented programming.
The estimated time required to complete this task is 40-50 minutes.
During this time, you will learn the role concept, train yourself to
recognize roles, and provide us invaluable information about the role
classification.

Your answers will be automatically submitted to us by email.
You may perform the tasks anonymously, but if you are willing to
supply your name and email address, we will be happy to send you any
reports and articles based on this research. Your identity will be
