Need Seminar Ideas

Hello everyone

I'm looking for seminar topics (and project ideas too) for my final
year in Computer Engineering. I'm considering doing something on
C++/Linux, considering that I love it so much -- I'm still learning it
though.

The topic could be anything computer-related at all, anything new and
interesting perhaps :) Perhaps a research topic.

If any of you have any ideas and suggestions in this regard, could you
please let me know?

All your ideas would be of great help -- could you please point me to
appropriate resources perhaps?

This is somewhat half-baked of me, but many of the free software
projects have lists of desired new features for the project. You're
probably more familiar with Linux, but I assume the sites for Linux
developers suggest directions that Linux should go/desired features.
Another possibility is to go to www.sourceforge.net and click on the
'Software map' link. There are tons of projects in various areas, and
at least some of them have lists of desired features (I think in the
documentation). I remember the gcc project having a very large list,
and some of them might have a more OS focus.

Perhaps one of the desired features is an appropriate senior
project...

I think this is a totally personal choice. If I was asked, I would choose
data structures and algorithms, because I like studying different kinds of
algorithms, and analyzing their complexity, seeing which one to use in
which condition, which one would be the worst/best, give a certain data
set. Tweaking algorithms to make use of certain features and assumptions
that the algorithm is based on......... And stuff like that. I guess there
is a lot of scope still in this particular field of pure and applied
computer science.

But it takes a great deal of experience and understanding to bring
anything fresh to a subject that has been covered so many times before.
The less experienced are usually well advised to find something new as
it makes presentation easier.
