Possible issue with forms authentication in asp.net 2.0 and IE7

P

Pedro Vera

I am having random user complaints about login pages basically sitting
dead and reacting properly to a login.

We are using the standard login control, and we are using
System.Web.Security.SqlMembershipProvider

Authentication is set to forms and we are using cookies. We are using
the same code in a few more products, and the only complaints I am
getting are from IE7 users.

I managed to experience this issue once, with two separate
applications using the same control, both through IE7. Basically I
kept clicking on login and nothing happened. I was so hardheaded about
blaming it on cookies that I did not pay attention to see if IE was
complaining about client side errors.

To make it worse, I have not been able to replicate this in over 5
days, yet my client keeps coming back every day just to whine about
this.

Am I the only one seeing this? How come it is only an issue in IE7,
while IE6, Safari and Firefox (on both Windows and OS X) are working
fine?

I can't tell my client to simply tell people to switch browsers
because most of his IE7 users are not really in control of their
machines. Plus with my bad luck, the second this client says sure,
we'll ditch IE7, the next client will show up complaining about the
same thing.

TIA
