Restrict Usernames to Alphanumeric?

I appologize in advance if this has been asked before. If it has, I
have had zero luck trying to find it.

Is there a way to restrict usernames in an SQLMembershipProvider so
that they are only alphanumeric? Something similar to what is done
with the passwords.
