SpectrumSCM delivers new features to enhance productivity with its latest
SpectrumSCM 2.1 Release - Announces availability of SpectrumSCM Proxy to the
delight of remote users.

Atlanta - November 29th, 2004:

Atlanta-based Spectrum Software, Inc., a systems designer and developer of
software productivity tools, announced today the general availability of the
newest release of its flagship enterprise Source Configuration Management
tool SpectrumSCM. Spectrum is continuing its tradition of aggressive,
customer focused approach into the CM market-space, with its second major
enhancement release this year. This newest release (2.1) includes the local
proxy server feature as well as a host of other improvements. SpectrumSCM
which is proving to be a very attractive alternative to many of the high-end
CM tools that are in the market place, has once again raised the bar, by
continuing to enhance and provide more useful and critical features in one
single system at no extra cost to its users.

SpectrumSCM is a flexible, process based system that can be used to manage
the entire project lifecycle. SpectrumSCM provides comprehensive source
configuration and management for any 'e-Asset' from origination through
delivery, maintenance, and support. SpectrumSCM is the first truly
integrated, platform independent, full-featured (Version Control, Issue
Tracking, Change Management, Process Management/Control, Workflow, Release
Management, Parallel Development) source configuration management system in
the market place that provides full CM functionality with one fully
integrated SCM system.

In today's world of global businesses, some of network connections might not
be as reliable, or high-bandwidth as you might like. To alleviate these
situations SpectrumSCM now includes a local proxy feature which
significantly reduces WAN bandwidth requirements. This feature can be
toggled on or off as desired by each user based on the network bandwidth
constraints they face.

"SpectrumSCM has always been a WAN enabled tool" states Adrian Raybould,
Director of Software Development, "but now, even in extremely bandwidth
limited situations, users can be fully functional and efficient in their
operations. The network is typically a productivity issue when you have a
globally distributed development environment, collaborating with the team
and accessing the repository located at the company headquarters. References
and access to files or project artifacts can now be served from the local
cache, rather than retrieved over a slower bandwidth network. Even local
virtual-office workers who might be using dial-up or other slow mediums, can
now quickly, easily and efficiently access the same central repository."
added Adrian.

"With the addition of newer functionalities on top of the already powerful
existing feature set, SpectrumSCM tool offers an attractive alternative and
solid investment to corporations, that spend millions of dollars to manage
and maintain distributed development teams. For small and medium companies
where many high-end CM tools are cost prohibitive, SpectrumSCM is proving to
be a powerful alternative to getting the full functionality of a high-end
tool at the price of a simple version control or issue tracking tool, a
value that cannot be matched by any existing CM tool", said Sarathi
Srinivasan, President and CEO of Atlanta-based Spectrum Software, Inc.

"The release of SpectrumSCM 2.1 is yet another reflection of our continued
commitment to our customers and the confidence in our CM product strategy.
Earlier this year we introduced a program for our existing customers to send
in request for new features they would like to have in SpectrumSCM. In this
release we are pleased to have included many such requests to the delight of
our customers. This is turning out to be a very solid example of the
ownership we have created amongst our users with their investment in
SpectrumSCM as their chosen CM tool." adds Adrian.

"We believe SpectrumSCM is truly unique in providing such a rich set of
functionality and limitless versatility to meet the ever demanding
challenges of enterprise wide configuration management for globally
distributed teams, all within one single tool, without having to doubt their
investment." added Srinivasan.

SpectrumSCM 2.1 new feature list.

SpectrumSCM Proxy - The SpectrumSCM Proxy provides enhanced performance for
distributed development teams in bandwidth constrained network topologies.
The proxy acts as a bridge between the SpectrumSCM client and server, it
builds a cache for frequently checked out revisions of the e-Assets that are
under source control. Files checked out by a client are used to serve
similar requests from other clients, thus improving overall response time
for check-outs and extracts. The proxy not only provides a better user
experience for remote teams but also reduces the network traffic across the
WAN and the load on the remote SpectrumSCM server. Load sharing can be
achieved by using multiple proxies for different projects in SpectrumSCM. As
opposed to multi-repository solutions for distributed development, the proxy
uses a single repository model and thus removes the administrative overheads
involved with maintenance and synchronization of multiple repositories.
Also, the single repository architecture provides for a more reliable
mechanism for version control activities while allowing the user to take
full advantage of the integrated change management, process management and
other advanced features in SpectrumSCM. The proxy updates its cache
transparently as and when users check-out and check-in files and thus does
not depend on the server to "push" updated information into its cache. In
keeping with the platform independent paradigm in SpectrumSCM, the
SpectrumSCM Proxy is truly platform portable and can be installed and run on
any OS with a Java Virtual Machine. This is a significant differentiator
when you consider heterogeneous development environments, compared to
competing solutions that may be platform specific or much more expensive.

Keyword Expansion - By adding keyword text into your source files, those
keywords will be auto-expanded to show information about that version of the
file. Attribute keywords include: file version number, latest author, change
request information, among others.

File Relocator - In support of agile development methodologies, the
association of a file with a change request can now be dynamically relocated
within the SpectrumSCM repository. This means that accidentally incorrect
associations can quickly and easily be corrected.

Extended support for multi-file operations - As a further enhancement to
productivity, users can now in one SpectrumSCM command-line operation,
check-in or out any number of files, from a few to hundreds. Previously,
multi-file operations were only available through the GUI or scripting.

Predetermine file dependencies - Prevents a user from inadvertently becoming
dependant on file changes intended for a later release.

Additional Enhancements include:

Addition of new reports to assist developers, project leads and managers.
Enhanced Merge capabilities
Improved assignment management
Show file status in the repository view
Bill-Of-Materials extract
