Build Solution from network share in VS2005 won't work - please he

G

Guest

Hi guys

Okay, I've setup my projects to open and compile fine in VS2005 using FPSE
and remote web, but it's *really* slow. So I thought I'd have a go at doing
it the normal way, by loading from the network share.

It loads in VS2005 fine, and I can edit and save code changes etc, but when
I try and Build the solution, I get the following error...

An error occured loading a configuration file: Failed to start monitoring
changes to 'W:\sitename\classfiles' becuase the network BIOS command limit
has been reached. For more information on this error, please refer to
Microsoft knowledge base article 810886. Hosting on a UNC share is not
supported for the Windows XP platform.

So, I'm using XP Pro on my development machine, and Win2k3 Standard on the
server. I've read the article mentioned and edit the dev machine registry as
suggested, restarted everything, and it still gives me the same error.

Help! What can I do to get this working?!

Cheers

Hi Dan,

Welcome.
So the problem seems due to the file share communication between your WIN
2003 server and WIN XP work station (dev box). Makesure the server share
has grant sufficient permissions (grant everyone sufficient permision) to
exclude permission problem...
And from the kb article, it indicate that there could be some problem
related to the SMB communication since windows NTFS File share use SMB
protocol to communication... And I think the limitation could be at the
XP box side... To check this, I'd suggest you find another win2k3 machine
as client dev box(which have vs 2005 installed) to try opening the file
shared web project to do the same test.... If that can work, we may pay
further attention to the setting for XP box....

Thanks,

Steven Cheng

| Hi Steven,
|
| Sorted! You were basically right, I'd done the KB article stuff but I
upped

to
