When I went to college nearly a decade ago, C++ and Java were the two
main programming languages students *had* to learn before they entered
the industry.

Is the same still true these days?

I guess the list now would be:

Java, C++, Visual Basic and C#.

Being in academia myself, not much has changed. Java and C++ are the
premiers. More Java (lots of java) than C++ though these days.

Yea... lots o Java... C++ is still used widley for the application
development world. Especially games and other performance apps.
