Can't create web controls in VS 2008 IDE

Brand new C# ASP.NET WAP. When I attempt to double click or drag an item
from the toolbox, the control does not get created on the designer, the HTML
source, or in the designer.cs code file.

Anyone experience this?

Well, somehow the underlying project name contained an invalid character and
creating a new fresh project from scratch solved the problem.
