how to control the width of the editcommandcolum in datagrid

Iam using the column object 'EditCommandColumn' in the
datagrid. The datagrid is created in one tablecell of the
table.
In the edit mode, when I click the link or
button 'Edit', it renders 2 controls 'Update'
and 'Cancel' which increases the width of my table.
Iam trying to use the 'ItemStyle-width' property to set
the width but it has no effect.
Could anyone let me know how to control the width of the
above column so that the table has the same width no
matter the datagrid is in the edit mode or not.
