Intel c++ 8.0: how to build .dlls and .libs??

B

Brian

I have been using lcc-win32 but need to switch over to intel for SIMD/SSE2
stuff. The documentation is pretty limited. It does not say much about the
linker other than the fact that you can create a dll. But it doesn't say
anything about being able to specify a .def file to specify exported
functions, and it doesn't say whether or not you can prevent underlines from
being
prepended to the function name. Also, it does not say anything about
creating static .lib files. Can someone point me to further documentation or
provide some examples on how to do this? Everytime I search on the net, I
come across info about using intel's compiler with visual c++. I just want
to use intel in a self-contained manner!

thanks,

brian

(a) Posting three times doesn't make your question any more appropriate
in this newsgroup.
(b) DLLs are off-topic. Visit a newsgroup for your OS.
(c) DEF files are off-topic. Visit a newsgroup for your compiler.

AFAIK, creation of dynamic and static libraries depends on the compiler
and questions about those should be addressed either to the compiler
vendor or to a forum about your compiler. comp.lang.c++ is neither.
We discuss _language_. The _language_ does not define dynamic or static
_libraries_. The _language_ does not define linking. Sorry, but you
are in a wrong newsgroup.

Try comp.os.ms-windows.programmer. Try http://developer.intel.com/,
they must have some kind of Q&A place there. Contact their customer
support, after all, you have a copy of their compiler, it should entitle
you to their help.

Good luck!

obviously it was an accident

funny - searching this group on deja with the term dll brings up 14000 hits
(c) DEF files are off-topic. Visit a newsgroup for your compiler.
searhing this group on the term .def brings up 2450 hits

I am sure someone here has the answer to my questions.

Cancer is common, too.
I am sure someone here has the answer to my questions.

Good luck getting it.

Yes, because there are a *lot* of people that insist on asking OT
questions here. Doesn't make it appropriate.

See above.
I am sure someone here has the answer to my questions.

I'm sure that someone here has a good recipe for spicy tuna, but that
doesn't make this a sushi NG.

What a bunch of anal-retentive morons here...

Seriously guys, I am impressed by your strong principles. You remind me of
the types of people that would just drive right past someone on the highway
in need of help. If I knew this forum was infected by people of such
questionable character, then I certainly would not have posted.

merry christmas!

Now you know.

I think he is confusing the words "questionable" and
"questioning". Thank you for the pickiness, all.
I'm Jewish.

Not a problem. How you have a merry Christmas is
implementation-defined. He might not have realised that though.

:) Actually, a day off work is always welcome. The tradition in these
parts is Chinese food and a movie. Of course, I'll probably end up
blowing an hour or two browsing Usenet...

Ancient Chinese philosopher say: "Don't let the door hit you in the ass
on your way out". (Well, no, not really.)

Yes.
We're all geeks and nerds.
What did you expect in a technical forum like comp.lang.c++?

Please treat us with respect and kindness that we so desperately need
instead of the disdain and abuse that we so obviously deserve.
merry christmas!

And a very Merry Christmas to you too.

Oh and by the way, don't top-post. We get really anal-retentive about that
too since only people of questionable character purposely top-post in a NG
where bottom-posting is the well-established convention...

Hey - some of my closest friends are anal-retentive! :)

( By the way, the correct term is "associative array", as in "What an
associative array of anal-retentive morons here..." )
Seriously guys, I am impressed by your strong principles.

Nope, that's dead wrong. Around here we go to water at the first opportunity
( saves time ).
You remind me of the types of people that would just drive right past
someone on the highway in need of help.

Some of my best friends do that too. We go cruising every chance we get,
just hoping against hope for such encounters.
If I knew this forum was infected by people of such questionable
character,

Geez - I find that offensive. Most of us here aren't even human, though some
are rumoured to be. Specifically there are many microbes at this newsgroup
who definitely don't go around infecting - not without asking first anyway.
They hold down jobs and pay their taxes on time too. Sheesh!
then I certainly would not have posted.

Yeah, but then we wouldn't have got to read it. :)
merry christmas!

Ain't that the truth!

( Now where's my rhetorical towel? I need to wipe off all this dripping
sarcasm......... )
