Consuming Web service

hi there:

I m new to WS and trying to consume a web service,
I dont understand very well the documentation for this, how can you add
a username and a password, and some other parameters on the connection?

I have tryed adding a web reference and this doesnt work, i get an
error:
The server committed a protocol violation. Section=ResponseStatusLine
